testing - oldtimer - 10-15-2020

I'm on google chrome and it still goes to archives . No big deal because I look at some of the old posts .

RE: testing - TAH - 10-15-2020

OT, try updating your Chrome browser. Just go to Google, type in "Chrome update" and click on the official link and follow the prompts. You may have to restart your computer after doing that.

RE: testing - CardBoardBox - 10-15-2020

my experience / steps
https://jamericans.net
goes to archives page and I then log on. (I unclick savename)
Starting again, or entering jamericans.net/yellowboard
and I go to the same archives page.
I see on the
upper left side, under the 'welcome ...' text line, a box. I move mycursor over-ontop of 'jamericans' which is a box with a right arrow, and I notice  the jump/link shown will be to ..../index.
So I click on it and I end up going here:

http://jamericans.net/yellowboard/forumdisplay.php?fid=3
so far, so good. I pick one posting  to display

I don't know if the http vs https is important.
I take note that the display ad on the top is a google supplied ad (for something. I click on the x inside the ad)

The page or post I selected (this test post  page) is displayed, with an ad on the top.

I click inside the post the "reply" button, and for over 20 seconds I see
"waiting for jamericans.net" lower left.
Then the page changes to the archives page which is

http://jamericans.net/yellowboard/#200,195
without me typing anything after I pushed the reply button.
This is the archives page, or caused that page to display.

That number may be a clue for Dread.

I tell you here the ad now has a company name (arrow) but not the 'x' next to that arrow.

Since I'm where I don't want to be, I put my 'back' button on the browser and go to

http://jamericans.net/yellowboard/showthread.php?tid=102861
where I was. I'm happy. I'm still in the posting I was/wanted to be and next push the reply button

I am NOW inside the reply box. (remember, I'm using chrome for the test, as DTot, but I'm now typing in my FF browser to tell you of my experience on Chrome.

Important note. When I switched windows to come here and tell my tale, we had left the chome browser inside the reply box.
When I just went back to chrome, I wasn't inside the reply box, the screen had switched/jumped over to the archieves page.

Don't think it's important, but the ad (on achieves) would jump to
https://googleads.g.doubleclick.net/dbm/clk?...
I don't have the URL of where the graphic ad came from.
More imporantly, I can not tell you the ad which was on the reply screen.

So I do a page back and notice the ad on the top is from googleadservices.
I next put the browser into debug mode (developer tools) which is a split screen.
On the left (yellow side of the split screen) I push the reply button
Poof. I'm back to the archives page.

Via the debugger I note the last two network connections to google are in red, indicate they failed

https://pagead2.googlesyndication.com/pagead/js/adsbygoogle.js
was the 'failed' url although google wanted to display something.
Indeed, this is NO AD on the archives page.
I've left out URL's but did mention the 200.195 on chrome way above, and will below too

I look here on FF and this is the URL while I'm inside the box
http://jamericans.net/yellowboard/newreply.php?tid=102861#200,195

Notice on Chrome, in archives, the URL on top is:
http://jamericans.net/yellowboard/#200,195
Notice some of the string has disappeared.

The use of the developer tool/debug is way more complex than I can muster, but something is clobbering something, causing the loss of the "newreply.php?tid=102861"

----
I can explain targeted advertising (customized.) I doubt google or whoever is doing something bad intenionally.
But just as programs contain code just for Chrome and just for Firefox, maybe that is why my computer on FF always works. However, when DTot started this I got both good reply screens and jump-to-archives using Chrome on the same day.

The ad I saw may not be the ad fetched by someone else. The display, the checking for ad blocking or language or hundreds of other values by  dozens of programs (sub programs or subroutines)  surely is causing this mess.

"https://googleads.g.doubleclick.net/pagead/html/r20201014/r20190131/zrt_lookup.html#" data-ad-client="ca-pub-9399644541391984" style="display: none;">
is only one example, one "program call". Tracking  all this 'spaghetti code' is near impossible.

The reply page fetches 53 sub programs and god knows what they do.
I could try to explain programming errors and error recovery (such as divide a number by zero) but that would not help resolve the YB problem. Logically, something isn't being done right. The fact that the archieves page shows up at all is a type of error recovery.

The fact/event that my machine spends 20 seconds looking for an advertistment, and it takes 20 seconds for the 'reply box' page to disappear and do the jump makes me think some condition inside DTot's box but not TAH's is the unknown. Why mine is variable just makes diagnosis harder.
I'm sorry I'm not able to supply a solution, but it's not for lack of trying.

RE: testing - kylake - 10-16-2020

Try going here:
https://jamericans.net/yellowboard/forumdisplay.php?fid=3

That should get you to the message board instead of the archives. It appears the shorter URL https://jamericans.net/yellowboard is what is directing to the archives page and from the archives page the word Message Board is a clickable hyperlink. If the URL at the top works make sure the page shows you are logged in and try to reply.
