Stop The Music - Firemon - 05-24-2019

Denise Plummer

People Negril is quickly becoming a ghost town!!
Entertainment will be soon extinct all because of greed, Monday 20th the police came at Roots Bamboo stating they got complaints about loud music and they have been told by their superior to lock off sound system, this was at 9:50pm, I said to the officer the music is already turned down would you like us to turn it down lower her remarks were and shouting on top of her voice in front of tourist and everyone very embarrassing, mi tired a dis turn it off now or else I'll be prosecuted, listen this, how do these officers measure sound cos they didn't have a decibel to do so, she rant and she ranted, tourist stated clearly that they won't be venturing to Negril for their vacation which is really sad all because of one person phoning the station and complaining about loud music, I pay my taxes like all the other hotels and I'm entitled to provide entertainment for my guests like all the other hotels in Negril which I know of a fact that these hotels are not being turned off by the police so why am I being targeted so frequently, the police came last night again Wednesday 22 stating that the Superintendent said to lock off the music this time at 10:30pm, base on stipulations by the government my lock off time is midnight for resorts, hear this people when the police came last night they told us that they didn't hear any music from the street secondly we took the band from its original place and place it under a more secured section which is more enclosed, listen here I'm complying and they still ask us to turn it off, some tourist begged and begged repeatedly for the police to change their minds, a couple was celebrating their wedding anniversary begged they even tried offering money just to have a good time, police said the music wasn't loud but the Superintendent said they got call about loud noise so who are these people or who is this particular person calling about loud music?? Why are these call and callers not vetted hmmmmm? Listen people wise up and rise up it's happening sooner than what we think poor people are gonna suffer, soon we won't be able to send our children to school. Entertainment doesn't escalate crime the stats are their to confirm this, u all are looking at the wrong place.
I can remember in June 2012 when my dear father was murdered I've never ever seen one person from the JCF visiting our family, no empathy nor remorse it was business as usual, now I'm providing clean and authentic Reggae music and I'm having repeated visits on a weekly basis, listen small businesses and poor people lives matters too, how can someone be calling all the way from Canada asking to turned down music in Jamaica
, listen this is what is going on here in sweet sweet ?? I act within the law stipulates by the government so why am I being targeted!! Will be updating again

RE: Stop The Music - Westenders - 05-27-2019

Where was that posted firemon?

She is right, this has been happening all over for a long time, police locking things off as soon they start.

Ive said for long enough , on here too, Negril is dying a death

The all inclusives will be all that is left, and I think this is the plan., Ive been saying this long time

The police are just doing the bidding of a few powerful geriatrics trying to get rid of competition and keep folk in the hotels. People have accused the all inclusives of doing this for years, but the Negril authorities are doing this themselves now using an oppressive strategy. Who is to gain? Answer that question and then all will be clear.

Tourists need to stop complaining about loud music, just stay in hotels not as close to venues, it’s totally possible.

She’s right about the hotels too, if you stay in s hotel and they provide entertainment, you will hear loud performances, how do they get away with it? I wonder lol

Look at the west end road conditions , disgusting for a tourist town. Lack of investment is squeezing businesses, funnelling tourists right where they want them.

We still go out at night in Negril socialising, but mostly the place is as dead as a dodo.

It looks like if you don’t want to see your favourite establishments close up, then make your voices heard on the social media platforms out there.

Are the Negril police, and tourist board on line?

RE: Stop The Music - oldtimer - 05-27-2019

It's seem to have gone from one extreme to another . Shutting down some venues so others will be full. If there shut down before midnight I'd be willing to bet that it's not the noise .

RE: Stop The Music - Westenders - 05-27-2019

A lot of this has been going on under the guise of the noise abatement law

However this gets ignored when palms are greased well

Have you seen the noise from dream weekend and sumfest over in Mobay
Now you can’t get much noisier and for later in the night than these events.

I don’t think it’s gang or crime related either
I see more trouble at home than I ever have in Jamaica at night venues

Roots bamboo dosent fit any hot spot of crime

In fact you can’t get more tourist focused than there

My hub went to the Marley concert there in Feb. He filmed some it, I couldn’t see any locals on it just tourists all paying good money to watch a show

It’s all down to money and I think some big hoteliers want some of that prime beach in long bay. Run everything down and they will get it for cheap

Bingo !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

RE: Stop The Music - Firemon - 05-28-2019

This was on the personal FB page of Ted Plummer's daughter.

Well put Westenders.

Makes me wonder if the Police have ever gone to The Jungle at 10 pm in response to a noise complaint.

RE: Stop The Music - Firemon - 05-29-2019

This is the suspected complainer.  Holds a grudge apparently.

RE: Stop The Music - Westenders - 05-30-2019

Not surprised

She got on the rocks closed down

That is a quiet part of the west end road anyway, so don’t know how her guests are complaining unless it was about on the rocks

As the article is a few years old..

My opinion is that not all guests want total silence and no nightlife

I’m not in bed by 9 pm on holiday, I can stay at home and do that

I've been knowing Tayon for 40 years . I know what she is doing to him and his neighbors. I'm Canadian and embarrased by this .
