Man stop to death at Dream Weekend, Negril Beach - Sharleen - 08-04-2018
This was not a tourist but a "business man" from Kingston, JA and he pulled a licensed gun on a security guard after an altercation, then the security man shot him. I hear there were huge signs up saying no licensed firearms were permitted, but no searches of incoming patrons. The section of Kingston where he lives is a really high end neighborhood and he did have a licensed firearm. Other news reports say his address is 10B Millsborough Crescent, which is strange because that is the Belgium Embassy address, so it must be incorrect.

I read about it this morning in the Gleaner after following the link jontom posted in the other thread . Gleaner article had a little bit more info ... seems he pulled his gun on a security guard after guard refused entry to vip section to his companion .. so sad.

The website for the Embassy of Belgium in Kingston lists their address as 6 St Lucia Avenue, 5 Kingston.
Google puts the address at 10B Millsborough Crescent, Kingston.
Tend to believe the Embassy's website.

yeah but the EMBASSY OFFICE is on that address, but the home address of the official is listed differently - they all (Embassy officials) do not LIVE at the Embassy office where they work. The deceased man's address is listed as 10B, the embassy representative's HOME address (NOT office) address is listed as 10.... So on some of the fb pages it has been reported that last year this man got into trouble in Kingston at a party for pulling out his weapon during a confrontation when he was drunk - also some reports that he was an "entitled SOB" and quite obnoxious.

was going to post an article about this shooting, but the thing that struck me were the steps the armed guard (purportedly) took:
1) Shoot armed assailant
2) Remove assailant's weapon
3) Send to hospital
"... fired one shot hitting Mathieu in his chest.
Mathieu's weapon was then taken and he was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead. "
I've never shot a person (armed or otherwise) and I admit removing their weapon is probably safer (maybe they would "revive" and start shooting?), but it still struck me as an odd detail for the Gleaner to note.
