I'm not either, but I'm not sure that this thread qualifies as that exactly. And this board was largely founded on a dislike of how things are run "over there". That said, I prefer to say what I have to say to the person/persons it is directed at, rather than what is happening here.

What is happening here??? Interesting!
My post reflected on a thread over there which implied an event might not be happening , through a lack of publicity. Which Is wrong and I gave reasons why that is.
I always find it intriguing when posters defend defend defend ....
TAH no one has a problem saying anything to anyone. But ultimately when a forum is so fiercely protective of the ‘truth’ you should expect others to comment if the information you post has some inaccuracies. If you wrote anything like this in that board it would be deleted / you personally attached or derided / then other members would back the behaviour up or minimise it...... examples in this thread.
If this board existed only to attract people who had left that board or were pissed at it... there would be a sizeable membership I’m sure.

My reference was to the chuckles about another's misfortune. I find it does my spirit no good to laugh at misfortune.

I'm not disagreeing with you, westenders, though I see how my comment comes across that way. I agree completely about the whole "truth" issue, though I do see the other side of it fwiw. Like Captain, I don't like the frequent derogatory comments, even if I agree with the sentiment. I'd rather say it directly to the person in question, but I'm a pretty direct person.
My reply to Cap was just expressing a minor disagreement about the use of the term schadenfreude, which I don't really think applies to this context. I don't see anyone taking joy in another's misfortune. Just throwing stones, which I don't like to do either (unless I'm throwing them directly at the person, metaphorically of course).

I did have a cynical thought about why that thread was started... but refrained from sharing as it was thought not fact...

I did a duckduckgo search on Schadenfreude when it was first posted and recalled an episode from Red Dwarf.
While outwardly I don't get any joy from someone's misfortune, think of the expression "What goes around comes around" and believe me there are a number of people whom I hope someday get what they "deserve."
Yet I will admit that when I see a YouTube video of some AH doing something totally stupid in their vehicle and then karma (sp?) catches them, a "serves them right" seems appropiate.

Well I was certain that it wasn't English or French ( or should I say L'acadie ) . Words can be harmful if people use them willy nilly .
