ok, so I never saw where the link was posted, but this is the article: Jamaica Crime News, Westmoreland: The Negril Police in the parish of Westmoreland are now carrying out investigation surrounding the death of a man whose body was fished from a river in the parish, on Sunday, July 1, with a section of his head bashed in.
The deceased has been identified as Bentley Walker, laborer of Pee Wee Lane in West End Negril.
Reports by the police are that shortly after 7:30 am on Sunday, residents in West End Negril went to the river and discovered the body floating in the water.
17-year-old Gunman Charged in Westmoreland
The police were summoned and, upon arrival, Walker’s body was fished from the water. Upon investigation, it was discovered that a section of his head was bashed in.
The scene was processed and the body was removed from the location and pronounced dead at hospital.

Technically - he did drown. My people there now tell me it was murder. The Jamaican newspaper, as usual, was wrong that his "head was bashed in"...he was beaten but his head was not "bashed in". I have also been given some background information as to the "why" he was beaten that I will not share online.
Anyone who knew Bentley knows that he was a tortured soul who struggled with mental illness pretty much his entire life. In recent years that struggle became increasingly worse. For me the silver lining to this tragedy is that he is no longer tortured. I truly hope he is resting in PEACE.
Mental Illness goes unrecognized and pretty much untreated in Jamaica. People with mental illness are generally shunned (at beat) and treated badly in various degrees. The worst fate for people there is to be mentally ill. We think the improper treatment and acknowledgement of mental illness in the US is bad - and it is - but its a party compared to what people suffer with in Jamaica.
As far as the dot-com is concerned it does not surprise me at all that the events surrounding Bentley's death are being shrouded - its the way they roll. However, people lose sight of the fact that a man is dead, a man who touched many lives there, especially tourists - and that's the story, not the manner of death.

Thanks for the details shared. 'Tis a shame the happy-news board decided to censor (or just not share) a part of of our shared Negril environment Westenders.
And thanks to Firemon for finding the videos. One, from 2009, has a narration of: A wonderful crabhouse off of the West end road in Negril. Ella Drive. Bentley will cook up his famous crab cakes....with fresh veggies and rice.
Not related, but before the government removed the "board buildings" on the north-east part of the road VERY close to the traffic circle, a guy nicknamed Crab had a cook-shop. Front at street level, rear on 6 vertical feet of cinder blocks. Cooking done behind the building. Ah, the memories.
