Lobsters...the mystery price . Lobster fishing starts here in this part of the Northumberland Strait this Monday coming up . Last year we had record catches and record prices . It was great for the new guys coming into the fisheries , it was great for the guys leaving and the guys in the middle got a well deserved bonus . This winter Canadian lobsters were sent to the states and relabelled as Maine lobsters . They always thought that there were 2 types of lobsters between Newfoundland and Rhode Island but now they know there are 11 variations .Where did these fish come from ??? On the Atlantic Ocean side of Nova Scotia there was very , very poor lobster fishing like 30lbs a day and after Hurricane Gilbert it went up to 3000lbs a day and been around 1500-2000lbs/day ever since . Where did they come from ???? Here where My son now fishs they tripeled their catchs last year . Where did they come from ??? As soon as our fishery opens this monday the prices will drop from $11 CDN to probably 5-7 CDN . The Asians control the prices here. In the USA the biggest buyers of lobster is McDonald's . Go figure that out !!!! On the average it takes 3lbs of live lobster to get 1lb of meat . Where we fish here we have the best lobster because we fish only hard shelled fish while in places that fish the summer months fish soft shelled lobsters and we get the lowest price .
Now they are super cooling the best spring lobster and selling it in the winter for a somewhat better price but it cost about $1CDN to do this . You could write books on this stuff .

The buffet at the largest native American casino in the Twin Cities has a seafood night with an inflated price and the local Asian community goes bonkers with long lines carrying around plate after plate (or two plates at a time) piled high with crustaceans.

Makes me wonder if lobster can survive as a species given the demand.

Gonna need more lobster farms and less commercial fishing eventually.

up date on the Nova Scotia lobster fishery. Record catches again and the lowest prices since 2002 . Bait is about $2/lb.Approx. 1/3 less money coming home and the retail price of lobster hasn't changed a bit .A truck got caught taking short lobsters to Maine/ New Hampshire last Tues. $10,000 fine and they were back at it on Wed. Fuel prices at an all time high .If Trump keeps up with this steel tariff against Canada the USA will be paying 2 times what they are now for fuel on our counter tariff .
