Just spent 7 days in San Pedro Belize - shipmaster - 04-11-2018

Seven days in an up scale 3 bedroom villa on Ambergris Cay. (7K for the week without transportation or food)

I'll post a report some time. Talked to ex pats and locals. Belizian kriol is like patois with some Spanish thrown in. I was something of a novelty at the resort. 'White Jamaican boy"

Speed boats around the swimming area, sargasso weed two feet deep every morning (pretty soon you don't even notice the smell)

All in all I'd rather be in Jamaica. But is was fun and real vacation

White Jamaican Boy!

You are quite the novelty.

Hope to meet up someday.

I always get a kick out of being referenced by my skin color in Jamaica.

But that's the way it has always been.To this day descriptions of people was so not polictical correct than you can get. That's all than I can say.

I've told this story before, of hearing "White guy, white guy" being barked (said) by a taxi loader.

It made me feel important for a few moments, ala "here's a special person" but it was just a label for "possible charter for taxi to the airport", which would naturally be many times more expensive than just a passenger in a route cab to Lucy.

I am under the impression that tourists (local word is "foreign") rarely go to the bus park by the Police station or the equiviant in Lucy or Sav. The more paying customers the better for the driver, and the bus or taxi leaves sooner too. And I suspect the (how can I describe the person huseling people into taxis?) might be "touched" by the driver, or he is working for the driver to get the vechicle filled. It's a scene to be experienced.

So, I wasn't special after all. It was potentially descriptive.

I think being politically correct has been overdone. There's nothing wrong saying Merry Christmas or God Bless You. (that one is when you sneeze and your heart has resumed beating.)

What I hate is being called Cheap Charlie or "CIA" because of my short haircut and just hanging around idle.

Going full circle, maybe I didn't hear "white guy" but a false "Rich guy, rich guy." LOL

Shipmaster is a 'White Jamaican boy" ; I liked that.

CCB, I thought they are called "loader men". I'm sure there are other terms.

From this video, RDX is/are imitating them I believe.
"one an' ready, one an ready". "one an' move, one an' move!"

call it as you see it !   some times can seem insensitive , but if the shoe fits ... Sheila does not like mommy or auntie though .. she gets it , the price of getting old . don't have to like it .
Years ago in Dominica , we befriended a bunch of locals to take us out one night  . We hired a van and drove most the length of the island stopping at every shop , on our way to a club in the capital .  As we walked into each new bar our escort deydey would  shout   my whites !   my whites !  lol

I will chime in. It's been a long time since I posted here, Jamaica has somewhat fallen off the radar for us.
Last November we traveled to Belize for the second time. Placencia to be exact. It's a fairly small village right on the south coast, at the tip of a long peninsula. A mix of locals and expats live there, we found it very friendly and inviting. It has similarities and differences to what we find in Negril. Plenty of good restaurants at a wide variety of price range, same with accommodations.
The big attraction for me is the fishing opportunities, plus great places to go snorkeling/diving.
Absolutely zero hassle from vendors - something I don't miss.

Will we ever go back to Jamaica? Probably will, it still has a place in my heart, but our next trip south will be back to Belize.
