Junior Marvin--Force One Band - Firemon - 07-18-2016

After Bob Marley's death the Wailers split into two factions with bass guitarist Family Man Barrett controlling one ensemble (The Wailers) and lead guitarists Al Anderson and Junior Marvin controlling another ensemble (The Original Wailers).  In time Al and Junior parted ways with Anderson continuing to tour w/ TOW and Marvin forming Force One Band.

Certain passages of Marvin's guitar work is unmistakable and partially why I fell in love with Marley's music originally. This cat was a big big part of the Wailer's sound. Check him at the 2:06 mark for a short instrumental segment followed by a killer groove beginning at 3:43 that'll have you reaching for a spliff even if you've forgotten to roll one.

The Original Wailers recorded some fresh songs like Blackbird. Desi Hyson on vocals.




Personally, I think the spotlight should have remained on this band after Marley's death, but instead the focus shifted away from the original band members to Marley's sons.

Pretty sure some gravilicious behavior and Fam's lawsuit vs. the Marley estate led to them trying to keep it in the family.

Here's a clip from one of those ensembles along with comments from saxophonist Glen DaCosta: "Unfortunately I don't think you will ever see any other original Wailers except for Familyman playing with the Wailers again, because of the lack of respect for other members of the band by Familyman woman Jennifer Miller, who is allowed to hire and fire musicians at will. Musicians are treated like common laborers with degradation and callousness, It's not about the music anymore. It's all about the almighty dollar."
