I checked out " Bobby's board " yesterday . Very interesting post on single older men in Negril . Last year while staying at Treehouse when my son got married , I noticed that there were a lot of single older guys staying there. Then I thought " I'm one of them "
I didn't notice any " escorts " there but ...that doesn't mean anything . I don't agree with the older men/young girls and I laugh at the older women/young men...but hey....everybody needs some action and if you can't get it at home . Just remember Jamaica has the highest amount of HIV in the western world next to Haiti so someone must have it .

there is a fair amount of older women and men expats in negril . . . whatever floats their boat . . . 

personally, i'm not interested in "sex for money" thing or whatever whoever wants to call it . . . that's what it is in my books . . . jamaicans like to call it "love" ItsallgoodWhatever

Jitterbug - I read the thread...I guess you hit a nerve, lol.

As for the many, many retirees in Negril now...don't have much to say on the matter.  I know lots of expats - some of the newbies not as well as some of the old-timers who got there in the primes of their lives and are now becoming "retirees".  We're not talking about the folks that bought places in Point Village and Little Bay Country Club.

Jamaica is not easy for the younger set to deal with - I would imagine for the older set much more, especially when you take into account medical needs.  But hey - to each their own...

rg, i was not trying to be mean, just saying that one has to be really, really wise to survive full time in jamaica!Itsallgood . . . that's what i meant by "it's not for the faint of heart" . . . i guess i should have explained further . . . but, i think it's all good . . . i admire men and women who can live there full time Saluting. . . 

it used to be a dream of mine until "i saw and experienced all" and realized that was not what i wanted for myself . . . love to visit though for as long as i canHappy girlHappy girl and hope for longer periods.

Jamaican meaning of ragamuffin is streetwise , and a bit of a roughneck .  Both qualities that can serve you well in JA . Not rude at all .

Well...the person who got "offended" obviously had NO idea what "ragamuffin" meant.  I mean, really consider the source.  If it doesn't parrot out of her boyfriend its pretty much drivel when it comes to the realities of Jamaica.  Whatever it was, it hit a nerve apparently based on that misunderstanding.

I despise the word "snowbird" and it offends me if I am referred to that way.  (When I think "snowbird" I think the bubbies and zeydas who make the pilgrimage every winter from NY to South Florida).  I do not live in or around "snow", and aside from what I consider to be cold weather (40-50F) and HOPEFULLY lots of rain I'm not coming to Negril in the winter for 2-3 months for the weather.  Never did to tell you the truth, even when I lived in NY.  I don't escape from anything which is why I am reluctant to move there full time - no need!  I escaped to a place where the "climate suits my soul" nearly 32 years ago.
