What is really discouraging is that this road safety topic has been ongoing for at least 10 years and in a perfect world you would think by now that someone of authority would have caught wind of it and done something to protect the tourists who are the reason why Negril exists as a popular destination. Sadly things never change. This is the argument that resulted in my eviction from Bobby's board years ago.

I think that's why Booby, whoops I mean Bobby , gave everyone the boot . The cliffs could be so much more than cliffs . If the bigger places put sidewalks on the inside of their walls that would be a start . If they seized all speeders  cars and bikes and kept them for 1 month that would also be a start .

Someone posted an article today on Facebook about the powers that be "thinking" about a "point system" in Jamaica for drivers who get tickets too many times.  Some of the drivers talked about in this article had 500 traffic tickets to their names.

The road safety issue has been discussed many times over the past 10-15 years, after West End Road (I personally never liked the "One Love Drive" change-over) was paved.  Before that you could easily walk from the beach to Hylton Ave without fearing for your life, day or night.  Fewer cars and those fewer cars going much slower than they do now.  Add to that the properties that ignore the set-backs and there's an impossible situation there - how exactly DO you put a sidewalk in by Rockhouse when their wall is right up against the street?  Meantime those "powers that be" are "fixing" the existing sidewalk from downtown on the Sav Road towards the police station.  Where our (West Enders) sidewalk?  Where's the sidewalk by the church corner (aka Mandrax turn) and by the school?  It, along with many other social issues is most frustrating and has been for a long time.

Speaking of infrastructure all last week and the week before residents on the West End had no water - AGAIN.  But lets keep buildling condo/townhouse compounds and more rooms on the beach to suck up the water before it even reaches the traffic circle.

Rant over.
