I love eating there -- in my living room I have a huge hand painted picture of the road, painted before the hurricane that kind of destroyed it. As a shrimp person I'm not too thrilled with those from that area but will still eat them. I don't eat cow foot soup or chicken foot soup but lots of my neighbors in upstate NY do. I've been told of their dire family circumstances as growing up & why their families relied on these two dishes.
I remember my first time going thru there. We were coming back to Negril from a day trip to ys and appletons. Our driver stopped and "demanded" s couple dollars from us. He bought several small bags of pepper shrimp. At first I wasnt sure I liked them but pretty soon I was eating as fast as I could.
When we were leaving (rental car) from Port Antonio last January we blew by a guy standing along the highway with a few baggies in his hand waving at us, not too far out of PA. Took a moment to compute when I said to my wife "I think those were shrimp!" Well at the next turnoff we spun a uball and went back. Took all he had and snacked all the way to Ocho. Yumm
