Rootswoman, I attended that concert in Lenox Massachusetts also -- a for sure great show.  I still live in that area, it's about 45 minutes from where I live.

Thanks Bruce!  It was fun writing about it.

Sharleen!  What a small world.  That is a beautiful neck of the world over there.

Yes Clarence Clemmens was an awesome sax player and a integral part of Springsteen's band. I was in the music business for a good part of the 70's and part of my job was to attend concerts, and I never saw a performer with that energy that would transfer directly to the audience. The second best concert I saw was Springsteen about a year later in another small venue. I've seen many great shows, but for me nothing comes close to the two Boss shows. I did see him again once in a large arena and it was just not the same.

Talking Heads, Stanley Theater Pittsburgh, 1978 I think. "Stop Making Sense" tour.

Best interactive is probably the Doobies in a huge bar in Kitchener Ontario called Lulu's in the early 90s shortly after they started touring again. We were sitting at a table within 20 ft. of the stage and it was an incredible party atmosphere.

I bet that was great. The Doobies always put on a high energy show.

They were here the night before Thanksgiving in 1977, and I was there doing my job as a promotion guy. That was a very good show with Pablo Cruise as the warm up, and Hall and Oates showed up backstage and joined the Doobies for a bit on stage. After the show I told the guys I was going to fly up to Duluth to catch their Thanksgiving night show, and they invited me to fly up with them on their Doobieliner. A fan here in Mpls had given Skunk Baxter a really life like puppet of him and he was really having a good time playing with it on the flight, then the guys did a little acoustical jamming. That was a very fun couple of days.

Talking Heads were awesome! Too bad David Byrne was a total dick.

I was at the Forest Hills version of that show - they filmed it for the movie.  Forgot about that, that rates as one of the best shows I've ever seen.  But it wasn't '78, in '78 Talking Heads were still playing at the Mud Club...I think it might have been '80 or '81.

RE: What is the best concert you have been to? - rootswoman - 12-20-2014

Oh how I love the Talking Heads.  I would have loved to have seen them.

Bruce!  Unbelievable!  What a time that must have been.  Man, you must have some stories to tell.

Did anyone get to see "The Police"  - I hear that they put on quite a show.

Several people mentioned Toots and the Maytalls.  I have seen them 5 or 6 times and have never been disappointed.  Toots puts on an incredible show.  It doesn't seem to matter how old he gets, he still has so much energy and pulls out those remarkable dance moves.  I haven't seen him for a couple of years - I can't imagine he will ever stop, but he is getting up there.  If anyone hasn't seen him and you get the chance - jump on it! Talk about a "feel good show" from a seasoned performer, that man knows how to do it!

Unfortunately, for now he has stopped.  There was an incident a few years ago now where some idiot threw a bottle onstage and hit him in the head.  He now says he does not feel safe in front of an audience and has stopped performing.  Really disappointing.

And the thing is, I saw him play a few days after the bottle incident, and it was an amazing show!  It was an acoustic show, with Anders Osbourne backing him up on guitar.  He kept saying he "was only about 80%", but I certainly couldn't tell, and it was one of the best shows I've seen.  I think he played maybe one more show, then cancelled the tour and hasn't played since.  Really hope he comes back.
