RE: Chickengunya - rastagirl777 - 01-12-2015 Angel - I got a three month supply this year to take because of ChickV. Its a schedule 2 narcotic now so I had some hoops to jump through. Usually a one month supply is fine for my 2 1/2-3 month stay here. In case you were wondering, we (hub and I) also get and take a three month supply of our other meds. With all the meds, the Hydrocodone included, the biggest issue there is insurance. We're on ACA so they will only cover 1 month at a time, the rest has to be paid out of pocket. The amount of pills in my prescription though - none of anyone's business. I will say it does not amount to 300 pills for three months My doctor is the same as all doctors. He prescribes responsibly - I use them responsibly. Never an issue. RE: Chickengunya - Angel - 01-12-2015 rastagirl777 did not think you are over using them. It fortunately is not an expensive drug. But yes the hoops and questions are something else. Enjoy you visit, stay well. RE: Chickengunya - Firemon - 01-21-2015 TMZ reports that Lindsay Lohan has been hospitalized after contracting chikungunya, a rare and incurable virus she picked up while in Bora Bora at the end of December. TMZ reports that Lohan, suffering from a high fever and experiencing joint pain described as "unbearable," was admitted to King Edward VII hospital in London. According to the website, the 28-year-old actress flew to the French Polynesian island to film a commercial for Esurance, and stayed for some personal time. On Dec. 31, Lohan tweeted that she had contracted the virus, transmitted by mosquitoes, which causes fever and severe joint pain. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2015/01/21/lindsay-lohan-hospitalized_n_6517382.html RE: Chickengunya - Jenny - 01-25-2015 Hi y'all! I highly recommend using Picaridin. It is as effective as Deet but, as it's plant-based, it doesn't have all those negative side effects of Deet. Here are a couple of links to check out on Picaridin: http://www.gardensall.com/how-to-videos-excellent-inexpensive-easy-on-your-back-raised-beds-upcycling-55-gal-drums/ http://www.outdoors.org/publications/outdoors/2012/equipped/picaridin-vs-deet-insect-repellent.cfm RE: Chickengunya - Firemon - 02-06-2015 Thousands of travelers to the Caribbean and nearby regions are coming home with an unwanted souvenir: a mosquito-borne virus that recently settled there. The virus, called chikungunya (chih-kihn-GOON'-yuh), causes severe, often disabling joint pain, and few U.S. doctors are prepared to recognize its signs. At one New York City hospital, a woman arrived in such agony she had to be admitted just to control her pain. "Thinks she has chicken virus??" the mystified staff wrote on the medical chart after interviewing the patient. Since it spread from Asia and Africa in late 2013, chikungunya has infected a million people in the Caribbean, Latin America and parts of South America and Mexico. Actress Lindsay Lohan recently said she got it while in French Polynesia. In the U.S. alone, more than 2,300 travelers since last May have brought home the virus, which has nothing to do with chickens. About a dozen people have gotten it from mosquito bites in Florida. The virus can cause fever, a rash, headache and joint pain, mostly in the arms and legs, that can lasts for month and in some cases, even years. Symptoms usually start three to seven days after the mosquito bite. http://abcnews.go.com/Travel/wireStory/caribbean-blues-mosquito-virus-sickening-travelers-28767344 RE: Chickengunya - rastagirl777 - 02-06-2015 Well...I'm officially Chick-V free! Been home for a week - no symptoms. Yay DEET. |
