Still following along and a most excellent adventure!

RE: How I spent my summer vacation - Tim - 08-19-2014

Thanks kylake, trying to stay on top of it before I start to forget things.
We spent some time at a museum in Kitzbuhel, there was quite a bit of art as well as old artifacts, but what interested me most was the old toboggans and skis as well as other winter toys of all descriptions. I would guess there were plenty of injuries riding these things down the side of a mountain..

RE: How I spent my summer vacation - Tim - 08-19-2014

Now would anyone like to guess what the hell is going on here? Obviously I took this picture while in stealth mode lol...

RE: How I spent my summer vacation - Tim - 08-19-2014

Our last night in Kitzbuhel we went out to a bar, one of the few that was still open after dark - pretty sure things are a lot more happening here in ski season. It was pretty neat inside the way they had the ceiling lit up, hard to tell in the photo.
More beer! (surprise)..

Now on to my "funny" story...
Our hotel in Kitzbuhel was a typical Bavarian hotel, not huge - 4 floors with each one having about 12 or 15 rooms. Upon check-in we were told there is a spa in the basement floor, sauna, steam room etc.
Our first day in town ended up being by far the wettest day of our entire trip, we got caught in a downpour at the base of the mountain and made our way to a outdoor bar (along with a huge awning to shelter us from the rain). Even though we had rain jackets on Rosie ended up with a chill from her pants getting soaked. After a few beers we decided to head back to the hotel, and Rosie thought we should check out the spa. The room came equipped with housecoats so me grabbed them and took the elevator down to the basement.
The very first thing we noticed as we entered was the music. It was like something you would hear in an old 1980`s porn flick. Then we noticed a sign with 2 ``pictures``, one showing a person wearing a swimsuit with a red line across it, another with a naked body, no lines. So the rule is, naked only. Not that we are prudes but it was a little unnerving at the thought of prancing around like that, but since there was nobody else there we decided what the hell. So we stripped down, grabbed a couple towels from the pile and headed for the sauna. It was so nice to lay in there and take in the heat but after about 20 minutes it was a bit too much. So we went to the showers for a cool off before checking out the steam room, where it was even hotter. So after about 10 minutes of steaming it was another shower. Now we are walking around checking out the rest of the `spa`` It took up a big area, probably close to the entire basement of the hotel. There was a room partitioned off with curtains, behind it were a couple velvety couches, no doubt where the porn scenes were shot! On the other side of the spa was another curtain with a sign - relaxing area. Behind the curtains were 4 beds. So I decided what the heck I will lie down for a couple minutes and I got a quick surprise - they were WATER beds!! Haven`t been on one of them for probably well over 20 years. I`m telling you, it was like a hub of sex waiting to happen down there.
After a good laugh we decided on another session in the sauna. When Rosie got up to leave the sauna she took one step out before leaping back in - there`s people out there!!!, she yelped. And they are naked!!! It was quite the scene for us but we managed to get back to the showers to rinse off before retreating to our room.
Sorry I never took any pictures.......and by the way, I left out some of the story, will let you figure it out for yourself....

"Please don't touch the balls"

The decor of that bar is really cool. Was the vibe dead or did other patrons partake?

I hope you did what I would do in that water bed.

I love all the old snow equipment! Serious injuries, I bet, lol. I enjoyed your funny story and you guys were quite brave. Who knows, I may have done it too, seeing how you will never see these people again, haha!

RE: How I spent my summer vacation - Sharleen - 08-20-2014

definitely enjoying your trip report, my grandfather was born and raised and lived in "The Hague" for many years, then moved to New York City and after many a year bought a home in Sleepy Hollow NY.
I am an avid gardener and have always wanted to go to the Netherlands to see what's up.
Thanks for keeping us all updated on your trip report!

RE: How I spent my summer vacation - Tim - 08-20-2014

It was a short train ride to our next stop, Salzburg. We never had any plans there as it was just a one night stay before we entered the Czech Republic, as Prague was a fair distance from Kitzbuhel. The train was very comfortable, very few passengers in the first class section. Our hotel was about a 5 minute walk from the main train station. We got checked in and just as we left to do some exploring, it started to rain - hard. So back to the room for our rain jackets and away we went, no real destination in mind.
We made our way towards the older part of town, over the bridge crossing the Salzach River. We had probably walked 5 minutes when the rain stopped, but now we were stuck with rain jackets for the day. A famous part of Salzburg is the Hehensalzburg castle, which dates back to the year 1077! It sits atop a small mountain on the edge of the city. We never had time to do a tour but made it to the base where we found, you guessed it, a beer garden. It was actually a storage "warehouse" built into the side of the mountain, a place where the beer keeps nice and chilled. More to come, pics too...

Salzburg, Austria....
The second picture is a huge parking lot build into the side of a mountain.
