How I spent my summer vacation - Tim - 07-11-2014 Very excited as my wife and I are leaving for Europe today. I have never been overseas so it will be a completely new experience. We will be starting our trip in Copenhagen, Denmark and doing a 23 day tour mostly by rail through the Netherlands, Germany, Austria, and Czech Republic On July 19 there is a marathon/half marathon in Fussen, Germany. I am running the half, wife is doing the full to celebrate her 40th birthday which is a few days later. Hopefully my lungs will be up for it after spending 3 days in Amsterdam and visiting a few coffee shops lol. While in Austria I hope to go to the site where my grandfather was a prisoner if war during WW2. We will be doing plenty of beer testing in places like Munich, Germany and Plzen, Czech Rep. The final 4 days will be back in Denmark. My wife's parents have close friends there. They own a cabin on a small island not far from Copenhagen, where I hope to get in some fishing while watching the huge ships cruise by. One of the things I really am looking forward to is riding the high speed trains. The ICE train from Amsterdam to Munich travels 320km/hr. Fun. We are travelling light, carry-on only. Hope to share some good stories and pics on our return. RE: How I spent my summer vacation - rootswoman - 07-11-2014 Oh My gosh Tim, What a trip you have planned!! And if that is not enough a Marathon as well! Congratulations to both you and your wife for getting in good enough shape to enter - that in itself is an impressive accomplishment. I hope you take lots of pictures! Stay safe and enjoy!! RE: How I spent my summer vacation - macyoder - 07-11-2014 Amazing, have fun! I've never been a runner but love to exercise and workout. I can't wait for pictures and stories of your trip. Hopefully, if you have time, you can check in here from time to time.
