Some quick thoughts (mostly comparisons to JA trips) and a few pics from last week in Anguilla.
Very nice, pretty island, if pricey (and $$ to get to also). Everyone we met was very friendly and not a single person harrassed or even was less than outgoingly friendly. Even the very few beach vendors that approached us would simply smile and say "OK, have a nice day" when we expressed no interest.
In general we had great meals, though expectations (people online rave about Anguillan food) may have been set too high (particularly for the price).
As said above, everything is $$ - no question we get better value in JA and are more likely to return there than Anguilla (but like to imagine we'll go back some day).
Small island and pop. is ~13k total. travelled mostly on foot and by taxi. Most living conditions reminded of JA - several homes in partial construction (assume waiting on the next season to get $ to finish).
Will show photo below about woman's home that is B&D's BBQ. Looks like they set up a BBQ pit, a tarp and some plastic chairs for the resturaunt in her yard - b/c that is exactly what it is. Great meal and great value. Cooler set up w/ various soft drinks, beers, etc. - serve yourself (cold hands!!). At the end of meal she asks what we thought we drank (her sons had already cleared the table/bottles).
Asked for the restroom and she escorted me through her front room, past a bedroom to the single bathroom in her house. Reminded me of some JA households - simple, small and very well cared for/cleaned.
As wrote elsewhere - no jetskis!!! heaven. and very clear, deep blue water. Some of the softest sand we've ever felt (like Destin FL, and maybe a few parts of Negril).
There is a sort of patois, but the little we heard, for some reason was more "clear". Hard to define what that means, but it seemed easier to understand (perhaps spoken a bit more slowly?).

JonTom, thanks for the report and sharing you insights on another tropical destination. The beach looks outstanding and reminds me of Anegada and Tulum beaches. Both of the aforementioned are deep and long just like what you have pictured.
The food from the B&D BBQ looks great and priced very affordable.

That beach looks like heaven.
I love hearing about different vacation destinations.
When I was 21 I had the opportunity to spend a winter sailing around the Caribbean visiting various islands. I have an old journal somewhere - but like a fool I didn't take ANY pictures (well maybe somewhere I have a couple of bad ones) I know we went to St Martin and I think we went to Anguilla but I'm not sure now. We went to many islands. Often we would spend a night in the harbor, have a meal in town and be gone the next morning. I guess when you are 21 you think its just the beginning and there will be many other such trips...
