Snow birds - kylake - 03-03-2014 We had an ice/sleet/snow event last evening. I guess mostly sleet and ice because when I went out early this morning to fill the yankee droll feeders I was walking on top without sinking in at all. Birds were watching and by the time I could get back in the house it looked like this at the feeders. [attachment=46] RE: Snow birds - rootswoman - 03-03-2014 Wow, what hungry birds! Those were mostly finches (different varieties) a few juncos and a couple of cardinals. Felt sorry for them and fed them pretty heavy today. RE: Snow birds - Schuttzie - 03-04-2014 Yes, they are pretty hungry this time of year. We feed our birds, too, but limit it a bit on how often to feed them. Squirrels are always trying to get up on our feeder. RE: Snow birds - kylake - 03-04-2014 Schuttzie, we have problems with tree rats also. Typically we just feed on the weekends but with the ice keeping the birds from normal food they can access this time of the year I felt sorry and fed them yesterday and today. RE: Snow birds - Schuttzie - 03-05-2014 We've been feeding more often, too. Yikes about the tree rats! I don't believe we have those. I end up putting vaseline on the pole to keep the squirrels off and it becomes quick comical, lol! RE: Snow birds - kylake - 03-05-2014 tree rats = squirrels :-) |
