Thank you Coconut - that is nice to know - ill do it!

I'm also going to spray "liquid fence" around the property
I guess it is fox piss and it is meant for deer and rabbits but works with squirrels.

I heard cayenne pepper but it might hurt the squirrel's eyes - i love my dahlias but i couldnt do that.

However if worse comes to worse i will do your neem oil mixture safe for vegetables?

Squirrels eating cherry tomatoes! That would be a pisser.

Ohhhhh... not a animal hater! Big Grin Big Grin LOL! "Some" not a lot of cayenne and it goes on the leaves for added seasoning in the wet mixture but it is not dusting around.

I should also qualify, the neem oil STINKS. There is not a word to describe it but yucky. I mixed a big batch, put on latex gloves and then knit mittens over top of the latex. I then submersed my hands in the bucket of neem, garlic and cayenne and then bathed my plants in the mixture, rubbing them gently. Initially, this was to combat red lily beetles but my goodness, I don't think we had even an ant after that. Everyone was like "FART BOMB!!!" Like I said, emergency situations only.

What kind of bugs do you have on your veggies? You know what RW - I'm a pick and squisher on any plant that grows something that goes in my mouth. First I pick it, then I squish it!! Big Grin I don't even fertilize my veggies. We did get something in our greenhouse by Safer's which was an insecticidal soap that does a good job on aphids and little green worms (for my roses) but, again, soap. It does have a mildly pleasant-ish scent. http://www.saferbrand.com/store/garden-care/5118

And for your "hmmmm" moment today: My Aunt is a big proponent of tobacco tea. Lets it steep over night and then sprays it but it stains...... Also, I did plant chives around some tomatoes last year and it seemed to keep the white fly and aphids at bay but it could have just been the year....

Oh no - i wasnt referring to the cayenne in the neem oil - that smelly mixtures sounds like a great last resort.

i read somewhere to sprinkle straight cayenne on the dahlias that the squirrels are eating
i pictured them rubbing their little eyes and couldn't do that!

someone ate my Zucchini blossoms - Im assuming it was the dahlia bud eater or his friend.
i was wondering if the neem oil was safe for squash . The zucchini are next to my dinner plate (i think and hope) dahlias which i planted late and haven't budded yet. If they start eating those buds squirrel warfare will break out around here -

I used the liquid fence stuff - its not real fox piss - that stuff costs a fortune. I got it at Lowes - Dread read that it is supposed to work for squirrels. it rained and it is rainy and it said spray during a dry spell so i hope there are no surprises out there this morning...
