RE: Unique? - Westenders - 08-17-2014

and im way too prudish to get into a real discussion about masturbation!

RE: Unique? - macyoder - 08-17-2014

For me there is a lot I have experienced in Jamaica but have never experienced in the US and not all bad. The reason I haven't painted my skin red, white, and blue is there are still things I like and appreciate about Jamaica and the culture, so for me unique. Outside of the US, how many times and how often have you read of school shootings. Also a country with all the wealth of the US but kids still go to bed hungry. IMOP, without uniqueness cultures would just be an extension of each other.

Now, I think we (me and the mouse in my pocket) have been less than fair to many Jamaican men because it is easier than taking a hard look at the role of females: our mothers, sisters, aunts, grandmothers, and ourselves. Jamaica might be the one thing most on this board have in common but we have experienced it differently. I am concern going back to my father's yawd because someone might try to get me. Can't get Harry get his shirt (kid) for the sins of a man already dead. Being the first born, there might be land involved. Now that might change the reason they don't want me around.

Like vasectomy, it might be a cultural thing. I go snip, snip and some guys just go bye, bye. I have met a few guys with no kids, but snip, snip. We have 2 kids so snip, snip and tie, tie.

Hey Westenders,

Nope you didn't really touch a nerve , as I usually don't get very emotional about the board . Ive had enough experience on message boards to have learned to detach. Its just been an ongoing issue - I am always interested to hear other opinions on things whether i agree or not.

I always say - if you don't want negative than post positive. The only times it does touch a nerve is when posters I have known for many years come and talk about negativity and leave. They only add flame to the fire but never do anything to change it - they just complain.

People need to process things and people need support sometimes - when i am dealing with personal issues i google them and read all i can - the good, the bad, the ugly. That is me - I need to know it all. Many people are different and they only want to hear the good - that is how they cope with life. (They are probably happier people than I) Ive never been able to block out things that disturb me - I often wish I could.

LOL regarding masturbation. This is where our cultural differences shine. In the USA we talk about most anything. I have often disturbed my British friend's better sensibilities by talking about stuff that is kind of taboo to discus out loud in their culture. I wonder if this has anything to do with why our frankness on this board is disturbing to you. I can certainly see why it would be.

On hearing you have half Jamaican children I can understand your position even more. I am sure I would be a lot more defensive if that were my case. My daughter is half Greek and I could go on about the Greeks - but I am no longer with her father - I imagine if I was I would be a lot more sensitive.

The important thing I want to stress is that we all can have opinions and they are all valid. We do not have to agree. Many people don't stick around because they prefer more boundaries and rules. Its all good as far as I am concerned. Everyone is welcome to come and go as they please - we are here for all of you if and or when you need us.

Two minutes in a line at Walmart and a woman going through menopause would be more than willing to share the details of her hot flashes. This I would not expect in Jamaica or anywhere else for that matter.

LOL, the thread on menopause was anything but tame. Let me move the fan to the other side, I need the breeze Crying

Macy - this is what I love about you - just when i think your getting a little bit too opinionated (although I will stress what I always stress - all opinions are valid - they are your own opinions - I don't need to agree or neither does anyone else) you are willing to look at your opinions introspectively - go deeper and and grow.
Bravo my friend! This is a major revelation.

Ive been having my own revelations regarding my family lately and it has not been easy .

I totally agree with Socrates "The the 'unexamined life is not worth living"

although the examined life is often filled with pain.

RE: Unique? - Westenders - 08-17-2014

loved the last few posts Rw and Macy, although my brain is going as my bed is calling as it is almost midnight here.

Yes RW, we English certainly are funny about what we talk about openly, I think its all that suppression from the Victorian era lol.

Macy we also talk about lots of things in line too, but definitely not masturbation !! oh no...

RE: Unique? - oldtimer - 08-17-2014

But it's only on Wed's . Got to start some where ...

RE: Unique? - booger - 08-17-2014

All this masterbation talk has kept me at arms reach from the board. LOL

With that said, I see a lot of passion expressed on this board that matches a lot of the feelings that I have. If you give a shit the cons will frustrate you. As you gain understanding into the daily lives of peeps that you have warmed up to it only gets worse. The negative shit is more prevalent here as the censorship is absent.

I just booked another trip yesterday and am working on a trip after that today. Taking my cousin and his wonderful girlfriend on the next one and am headed back with a bunch of friends the trip after. Staying up on the West End, you know, where all the madness has gone down lately. Not deterred and only hope that the authorities can get to the bottom of the violence, the nice people of the West End deserve better.

Macy I appreciate your recognition of the issues we are dealing with here in the U.S. such as weekly school shootings. A Jamaican driver I had mentioned this out of concern for his Granddaughter here. What was really appalling to him was that the Sandyhook shooter had killed his own Mother first. It takes all kinds of people to make this world go around yet lately it seems as though things are really spiraling out of control.

I try not to infringe my cultural values upon the Jamaicans. There was a time when you could walk anywhere in Jamaica at ant time of the day or night. They say they learned corruption from us. I know of many families in Negril who placed their trust in investors when selling their property only to find out they had been deceived because they lacked the ability to read well. I know of one Family who was forced off of the Beach in the middle of the night at gun point. These people have never appeared to be bitter to me in their discussing this. They moved on and tried their best to make sure that the children were well enough educated to read and handle the Family affairs.

I often wonder what would have happened if Jamaica had remained with the Federation. Those Islands that did do not seem to be struggling as the Jamaicans are. I try to remember that they are still cutting their teeth as far as independence is concerned. My husband saw the Jamaican currency change there times within his life time. I don't have any answer their economic problems except I think they may have been better off aligning themselves with Manley and his Socialist ideas.

True, religion does play a very important role in their lives. I have attended a public school graduation at the Church of England. I believe it was because it was the only venue large enough to hold the crowd. I really appreciated that they were able to do that without anyone being offended. That would never be able to happen here.

I have tried to treat people everywhere as I would like to be treated. I have been fortunate enough to never have had any real difficulties. If I have been disrespected I will surely correct that particular person and not blame the whole village.

I truly love my Jamaican Family and have beautiful memories of my time spent with them. My heart cries for them during the difficult times.
